Glossier’s Latest Launch Guarantees A Serious Acne ‘Solution’

A post shared by Glossier (@glossier) on

Glossier is well known for providing incredibly Instagrammable products that help deliver its signature “Glossier Glow,” that naturally radiant and almost glassy-looking skin on the chic models that flood our social streams in a swirl of millennial pink. And while the beauty brand stepped into skincare a while ago (most recently unleashing a sunscreen), it’s out to conquer new territory: acne.

Glossier Solution finally hits shelves today (and is likely selling out at lightning speed) after weeks of teasing on Instagram.Housed in a pink bottle with a pump lid dispenser, the brand is also offering its own cotton pads, embossed with its signature “G,” to apply the Solution with.  The new skincare essential is touted as an exfoliating skin perfector that gently sloughs away dead skin cells to keep pores clear, shrink their size, reduce redness as well as even tone and texture in mere weeks. In fact, the product page includes a series of before and after images of its effects on various skin tones and concerns.

The Solution is formulated with a blend of the familiar acids like salicylic and glycolic, and lactic, but the key ingredient that could be a game changer for anyone with acne is its polyhydroxy acid. Studies found that polyhydroxy acid (PHA) delivers exfoliating benefits just as well as other hydroxy acids without causing the same level of irritation with a dose of antioxidants to boot in most cases. The same study also found that PHA can help strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier and keep it hydrated, making it even better news for sensitive skin types that can dry out and react negatively to other chemical exfoliants. And when paired with glycerin and aloe (and zero alcohol) in the formula, it’s bound to keep skin looking plump and dewy.

As an acne sufferer myself, I’m already itching to add this to my cart. I’ve tried numerous exfoliating formulas in the past, and most left my skin feeling tight and parched immediately afterward — something someone with oily skin like me doesn’t need, as it causes my skin to produce even more oil and leaving me more prone to pimples. The closest I’d come to pure exfoliating perfection previously was Pixi by Petra’s Glow Tonic, but even then, I couldn’t use it every day without my skin feeling extra sensitive. So don’t be surprised if this baby ends up in a future edition of #OnMyVanity.
