Nexxus New York Takes the Tribeca Film Festival

Hair and makeup are as important to a film as its sets and wardobe—the look has to come together to tell the story. So it made perfect sense when I learned Nexxus New York Salon Care sponsored this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and invited a gaggle of beauty editors like me to experience the festivities first-hand on Sunday.

The day started in the brand’s salon, located in the heart of Tribeca, where we were received with an array of healthy snacks, movie candy, and, of course, cocktails before we were joined by Nexxus Global Creative Director Kevin Mancuso and director Catherine Hardwicke for a panel discussing women in film. Hardwicke herself noted that she had a bit of a head start when it came to inclusiveness, thanks to the influence of her dad. “My father was a feminist —a big one, and he was in the sciences with a similar  disparagement of numbers of women in the sciences, ” she explained to the audience. “And so he grooved out a path in his research group to incorporate women. He helped create those liberating messages [for me].”

After the panel wrapped up, the editors were invited to primp for the red carpet with hairstyling, manicures, and makeup, which we all took full advantage of. The salon had been open throughout the festival to offer consultations and services for industry insiders and VIP guests. and with a client list that includes the likes of Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams, and more, we wouldn’t have been surprised to see another A-lister in a seat (or at least feel like one).

Once we were all red-carpet ready, it was our turn on the step and repeat before heading to a private screening of one of the final episodes of The Good Wife. While I honestly hadn’t tuned in throughout its run (there’s so much good TV on Sundays), I was intrigued enough to start looking for the best platform to play catch-up. The cast, including Juliana Margulies, Matt Czuchry, andCush Jumbo and creators Robert and Michelle King were on hand to celebrate with a Tribeca Talk. Moderated by Entertainment Weekly’s Henry Goldblatt, they touched on everything from the possibility of Will’s return for the finale—even if it’s in the form of a flashback to funny fan encounters. But all in attendance agreed that it would be a fond farewell.

With 156 episodes, I clearly have a lot to catch up on!
