Bite Beauty’s Upcoming Zodiac Lipstick Doubles the Color & Doubles the Fun!

Courtesy of Bite Beauty.

Happy Birthday, Geminis! Bite Beauty is celebrating your birthday month in a big way by doubling up on a customized lip color that hit stores tomorrow.

While previous entries into the brand’s limited-edition Astrology Amouse Bouche collection have consisted of only one color, this tube includes a double-sided bullet that you can use to apply either hue or swipe on both for a tailor-made shade. One side features a warm nude with a slight pink undertone while the other is a fresh, cheerful red that allows you to easily switch things up and get as subtle or as bold as you want on a dime.

With a pair of twins to represent the astrological sign, it’s no surprise that it was reflected in the lippie shades selected. As Tara Greene, the astrologer who helped the brand come up with the colors, explained, “Gemini—represented by twins—embraces duality and is all
about having fun. Gemini thrives on change and can’t stand too much sameness.”

After all, Geminis are some of the communicators and innovators of the zodiac. That’s why many actors and musicians like Tupac Shakur, Paul McCartney, Judy Garland, M.C. Escher, Angelina Jolie, Stevie Nicks, and many more are actual Geminis,  all discovering new ways to share ideas that connect us all. It honestly shouldn’t be that difficult to spot a Gemini in the crowd because they’re naturally social butterflies with a playful appeal. But if you’re having trouble finding one, Greene says you can usually find them “planning weddings and other big events, running their own PR firm, or leading a brainstorm meeting.”

With double the color, don’t expect this shade to stick around for too long when it hits shelves tomorrow, the 21st. And with Leo season drawing near, I can only think of the brand dreaming up the loudest, look-at-me lip color hitting shelves in the next few weeks to symbolize the zodiac sign that loves the spotlight. But until then, have your mice at the ready to snap this dual-shade up!

Bite Beauty’s Latest Zodiac Lipstick Taps Into Taurus’s Sensual Side

Taurus season has finally arrived, and Bite Beauty has already found a way to indulge: a new lipstick!

The brand has added another lipstick to its Astrology Amouse Bouche collection, and it just hit stores today! As with the others signs released so far, this limited-edition launch uses the signature traits of each sun sign to customize the color. While Aries had everyone seeing red with a fiery hue, Taurus taps into the sign’s element for a muted white-chocolate rose hue that the brand says is the perfect way to treat yo’self.

Thanks to Taurean’s penchant for earthly pleasures, a chocolate-inspired nude seems like a perfectly suited shade for the season. After all, Tara Greene, the astrologer who helped the brand select the shades, says, “[A]ll the finer things in life are essential to beauty-loving bulls.”

They’re the definition of “down to earth” as they’re known to be generous, dependable, ambitious, practical, independent, and reliable — basically, they’re the kind of people you always want to have in your support system. So it’s no wonder why Internet baes like Dwayne “The Rock” JohnsonChanning Tatum, Dev Patel, Megan FoxHenry Cavill, Rosario Dawson, and many more give us heart eyes.If you’re looking for one of your own, Greene says you can “find them running a florist shop, decorating and re-decorating their stylish abodes, or whipping up a delish new dish.” Yum!

Don’t expect this sultry nude to stick to shelves for long since Taureans love to treat themselves though makeup mavens will likely snap up this nude since it works for a slew of skin tones. With the shades sticking close to the signs’ most significant aspects, I expect to see something light and slightly shimmery for the airy Gemini in the next few weeks, but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see a shade that’s totally out-there, as the sign is known to do the unexpected (we’re looking at you Kanye!). We’ll just have to wait and see!

Bite Beauty Unleashes Its Aries Zodiac Lipstick for the Start of Spring

Sure, my birthday (aka the vernal equinox) is tomorrow, but there’s another celestial event taking place this week that begs every beauty buff to go bold.

Bite Beauty’s latest launch in its limited edition Astrology Amouse Bouche lipstick collection, which will hit Sephora stores on March 21st, takes the signature traits of each sun sign and applies them to a particular hue. While February’s Pisces lipstick offered makeup mavens a chance to get mutable with pretty peachy nude, this month’s Aries addition turns up the heat with an “in-your-face…fiery red,” according to the brand.

There’s no question why this bright and bold red was chosen to represent that Zodiac’s resident ram. According to astrologer Tara Greene, who helped the brand select the shades, Aries is the sign of “winners and wonder women,” like the newly-announced candidate for Governor of New York Cynthia NixonDolores HuertaVictoria Beckham (who’s slated to launch her own skincare line this year — so psyched!), Maya Angelou, Robert Downey Jr., and Selena Quintanilla-Perez, just to name a few. Greene says those born under the feisty sign are considered to be the take-charge type in any situation whether they’re “sitting front row at spin class (if they’re not the instructor already), saving lives in the ER, or nabbing a round of funding for their hot new startup.”

Aries are also known to be pretty impatient, so don’t expect this shade to sit on shelves for long. In fact, the first two hues released in the collection each sold out within two days of release! This rich, orange-toned tomato red is just as fresh as the start of spring, and would work for a slew of skin shades planning to slick on a layer or to polish up their beauty looks throughout the season and even into the summer. With the shades sticking close to the signs’ most significant aspects, I expect to see an earthy, terracotta Taurus lip color arriving in a few weeks.

Bite Beauty’s Latest Astrology Lipstick Offers a Pretty Neutral Pout for Pisces

Courtesy of Bite Beauty.

It’s almost Pisces season, and according to Bite Beauty, it’s time to pucker up!

The brand is expanding its limited edition Horoscope collection of its popular Amouse Bouche lipstick with inventive takes on each horoscope’s attributes. While the first lipstick in the line offered a deep a rich take on the airy and inventive Aquarius, Pisces is a fresh and juicy take on a neutral in the form of what the brand calls a “pitch-perfect peach.”

Some astrology afficoinados might scratch their heads wondering why a pretty pastel like a lavender or mint green wasn’t picked to represent the romantic and whimsical aspects of a Pisces, but the neutral hue makes a lot of sense! Pisces is the sign of “artists, visionaries, and dreamy creative types,” like Nina Simone, Steve JobsChelsea Handler, Elizabeth Taylor, and the bad gal of beauty herself, Rihanna (just to name a few), according to astrologer Tara Greene, who was tapped by the brand to help select the shades. While they’re considered the most spiritual and compassionate sign of the zodiac, Pisces are also known for working their magic behind the scenes, swimming from social circle to social circle seamlessly to help bring their visions to life — just like a good neutral goes well with anything in your wardrobe or on your vanity.

Or as Greene put in in a press release about the hue, “Pisces are soulful, and like water they ‘go with the flow,’ blending in and out of different environments. Find them painting a masterpiece, writing an original song, or volunteering at an animal rescue organization.”

So don’t sleep on this shade — snap it up ASAP before it sells out! Besides, as a Pisces myself, I would be remiss to miss out on snagging this shade! As much as I love the idea of owning a shade associated with my sign, the fresh hue could also be a great way to transition my makeup from winter to spring without skipping a beat. Plus it could be fun to mix with some of the other shades in the astrology-inspired collection — I’m an Aries rising, after all.

Bite Beauty Launches a Line of Lipsticks For Every Zodiac Sign

Courtesy of Bite Beauty.

The next time someone at a bar asks,”What’s your sign?” Bite Beauty wants you to tell them: “Read my lips.”

The brand has launched a limited edition Horoscope collection of its popular Amouse Bouche lipstick for each sign of the zodiac, with inventive takes on each horoscope’s attributes. To suss out the signature shade for each and their subsequent descriptions, the brand enlisted the help of psychic astrologer Tara Greene, who has over 25 years of experience of reading the stars, tarot cards, tea, and, yes, lipstick.

Aquarius, the first shade in the lineup, is a modern take on a berry with a blue-based hue and a satin finish (an up-close-and-personal look at the shade’s swatch is under the cut). This cooler color is meant to evoke the sign’s  association with inventors, pioneers, and radicals, like Angela DavisAmal Alamuddin Clooney, Joy ManganoOprah, and more — “unique individuals who like to disrupt the status quo,” according to Greene. “Aquarians are on the cutting edge, tapped into higher consciousness, and aware of the cultural current, ‘what’s next,'” she said in a press release. “Find them motivating groups, managing teams, and totally ruling (or even inveting) the latest social media app.”

Aquarians are the early adopters of the zodiac. And they clearly got the message early because since its launch on Monday, the lipstick has already sold out at Sephora! Pisces (my sign) is on its way, as it’s slated to hit shelves in February. But I still have my fingers crossed for a re-stock. I mean, why not collect all 12?! Even if the signs don’t always suit your mood or aesthetic, pulling out the shade of your S.O. could be a fun way to add flair for date night. Plus, it can be fun to mix and match if your love of astrology reaches further into your birth chart — a Pisces base blended with an Aries rising hue could look pretty cute!

Show Your Stash: Mecca Woods’s Bold Beauty Muses, Love of Lip Color, & Much More

I know I’m not the only one curious about celebs and influencers’ favorite beauty buys as well as who and what shape their view of beauty in the biz.

The biggest trend of 2018 isn’t mermaids or unicorns, it’s actually your zodiac sign. It seems like more and more of us are turning the stars to not only shine a light on the energies in our lives (on monthly, weekly, or daily basis) but also to help us in unexpected areas of our lives, including helping us discover our signature style, indulging our cosmic character traits with the latest beauty trends, and of course, scoring anything with our zodiac sign emblazoned or inspired by it. Sure, everyone has their own level of skepticism about it. But like other self-care practices (hey, some of us consider our morning makeup routine or a sumptuous bath to be meditative), our horoscopes can offer a peek into our lives that we might not notice on the surface, help guide us when we’re feeling lost, and even give us comfort. Like beauty, it’s all what you make of it.

It’s the same approach that Mecca Woods has taken to her own life, even adapting her social services background and experiences as a mom and partner to launch an astro-coaching practice that has led her to become the go-to astrologer for outlets like Bustle, EssencePopSugar, and more. And for her, it also applies to beauty. After noticing how close to home her horoscopes tended to hit (and taking her advice to heart), I started following the star siren on Instagram and Twitter and fell in love with her penchant for pop culture cues to the cosmos, her chic and kaleidoscopic sense of style, and, of course, her love for bold lip looks.

With her book Astrology For Happiness and Success slated to hit shelves this fall and an increasing array of listicles devoted to looking at every aspect of our signs filling our feeds daily, I figured it was only right to turn the tables and ask the astrologer extraordinaire to share what inspires her beauty choices — other than the stars — discover her number one summer essential, and find out if a zodiac beauty collection by Woods could be written in the stars.

On her approach to style: “I like to have a little ‘wow’ going, something that catches the eye and makes a statement, like a haute red lip or an electric blue eyeliner applied to my waterline. I love statement pieces — that bright pop of color; that funky, chunky piece of jewelry; or that wild and crazy print. I don’t want to do too much. I just want to give people enough so that they don’t forget it.”

On her biggest beauty idols:Grace Jones, Donna Summer, Danai Gurira, Solange. They don’t fit into the mainstream standard of beauty, and they manage to slay every time. From the colors and the prints, the hair, the quirkiness, the creativity…the GLAM! They each have an iconic style by being true to the things that make them standout in the first place.”

On her first beauty memory: “This isn’t my first beauty memory, but it is one of my earliest beauty memories: I must have been around 13 years old and this guy I knew, he used to cut hair for all the boys in the neighborhood. At one point, he started doing this eyebrow design, where he would take a pair of clippers and create these little “cuts” or lines in their eyebrows – like Big Daddy Kane used to wear. I asked him to do it for me and he did. I was the only girl on the block with that style. I thought I was bad AF.”

On her first beauty buy: “It was a plum hair rinse that I bought with money I made from my first job – working in a supermarket as a cashier. It might have been by Dark and Lovely. My mom wouldn’t let me dye my hair nor would she let me lighten it. She said I could do a rinse, though – the color washes put after a few shampoos. I chose plum because I thought the purple was pretty and different enough from my own hair color. I was SO excited. It brought me some compliments too.”

On the best beauty advice she’s received: “I’ve been told a few times by makeup artists and hairstylists alike that there was no reason why I couldn’t wear bright colors on my face or dye my hair super blonde. Years ago, I used to think I was too dark-skinned to pull off either. I know better now.”

On her number one beauty tip to share: “A clear lip gloss or lip balm. When I’m not in the mood to wear makeup and I’m out barefaced – wearing a good, clear lip gloss or a juicy lip balm makes me feel like my face is camera ready. No ashy lips here!”

On her summer essentials: “Any beauty buys you’re dying to get your hands on? Pat McGrath has this matte, red lipstick called Vendetta that I’ve been coveting. I see that ‘loaded’ lashes are also coming back for this summer. That’s a good thing because they never left for me.”

On developing her own zodiac-inspired beauty collection: “The only thing I can think of are nourishing sheet masks infused with aromatherapy. Each of the 12 masks would be created from a scent that corresponds to and benefits each the 12 zodiac signs. I’m big on beauty as a self-care ritual and I think this infuses the two.”

#OnMyVanity: The Mega Moisturizers That Helped My Skin Survive Winter

A post shared by Val’s Vanity (@valsvanity) on

I receive a slew of samples, and when I find something I like, I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Proper hydration is essential in maintaining the health of your skin and hair no matter the season. But the winter’s high-speed winds, chilly temperatures, and the subsequent use of dry heat to keep warm can make dry skin anywhere on the body feel extra parched. It’s something my skin has dealt for years, sometimes drying out to the point of splitting (yeah, ouch!). Since I started writing about beauty, I’ve slathered on a slew of serums, lotions, creams, butters, and beyond to keep my skin and strands supple season after season on a mission to find formulas that not only deeply nourish but also pass the doorknob test (you know, when you’re trying to turn a doorknob after moisturizing).

Sure, Spring (and my birthday) are only a few weeks away, but we’ve faced a pretty weird winter filled with fluctuating temperatures, plenty of blustery, grey days, and dry indoor heat. With a slew of moisturizers on the market at the moment, I decided to roll up my sleeves to slather on a slew of samples to see which beauty buys could sustain the suppleness of my skin throughout the harsh season.

Let’s take it from the top (to toe), shall we?

KFC’s New Nail Polish Redefines “Finger-Lickin’ Good”

via PopSugar

Sure, I love my share of chicken fingers, but this is going a little too far.

viaThe New York Times

via The New York Times

KFC is moving from the food court to the beauty counter with the first-of-its-kind edible nail polish. Nope, I’m not kidding. It’s the latest marketing campaign for the chicken chain in Hong Kong, which features an Original Recipe and Hot & Spicy glitter polishes in a nude and red, respectively. According to Ad Week, the brand teamed up with McCormick, who provides the secret mix of 11 secret herbs and spices for the franchise to infuse into the formula so it tastes like chicken (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

All you have to do is paint on a coat or two (Maybe you just add on as many layers of flavor as you want?), allow it to fully dry, and then nab a nibble. While this spells trouble for nail biters, I don’t think many in the U.S. are apt to test-drive the lunchable lacquer, but the marketers were impressed by how it turned out from the pretty packaging to the final taste test. “I tried it myself in the office when they were doing testing,” Anna Mugglestone, marketing and communications director for Ogilvy & Mather Group in Hong Kong (the agency running the campaign) told The New York Times. “It tastes like chicken. It’s crazy. I don’t know how they do it.” I don’t know either, but I’m honestly afraid to find out.

But the campaign is all in good fun to remind younger generations of chicken fans of “the great taste and good times the brand stands for,” even going so far as to ask fans on Facebook which flavor they’d prefer. While it’s not being mass produced yet, this is not the first time fast food has been infused into beauty buys. KFC’s sister brand, Pizza Hut, introduced a signature scent back in 2013 and  Cheetos created its own Cheeteau in 2014. Neither were mass produced, much to everyone’s relief.

After all this, I think I’m having steak for dinner tonight.
